Department of Education
In response to the Provincial Government’s mandate for a ‘One Island Community’, the government has elected to move the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development into the Holman Centre in Summerside.
Some department staff have been operating from their new offices since October 2009. When the rest of the 108 employees moving to Summerside arrive in July 2010, their services will occupy a large part of the ground floor along with a significant piece of the second. This includes the department’s management team; administration and corporate services branch; communications; as well as programs and services to early childhood centres and the public school system.
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development develops legislation and policies, creates programs and services and provides educational support and resources so that all Island children can enjoy positive learning and development experiences from birth through to Grade 12.
